AGK: What up Tyler? Tell me a little about yourself?
TT: Tyler Tedesco AKA SYC the current ceo of Stayhigh records. I'm also
the in house producer/engineer. I run the label side of things while also performing here and there.
AGK: What got you into hip hop originally?
TT: I loved hip hop when I was growing up. Now I grew up in the 80's so I was into RUN DMC, Ghetto Boys, NWA, Beastie Boys....you know real hit. So naturally I eventually just started writing my own rhymes. I think it was around the time shady just made it, I started to rhyme with a
Psyco D AKA Doug Dobson. We both chipped in and bought a karaoke machine that had two mics. We downloaded some beats and off we went.
AGK: I heard you just finished school, what did yeah take? What experiences did you learn from it?
TT: Entertainment Management. Basically I wanted to know how to promote properly, what labels are really looking for. How the whole industry works. They jammed alot in, I mean I learned how to do a good amount of things. Marketing, Artist Management, Sound Engineering, Tour Management, copy write law, socan, sampling, and web design..... it was nuts.
AGK: Where do you see Hip Hop in 5 years?
TT: I like that its gone back to it's roots. All of music is moving away from the major labels and going Independent. Not only is this great for hip hop, but for the artists themselves. Before they might not have a good release, maybe the label didn't want to promote it. There was a million reasons why this or that didn't get done. But now being a Indy artist if you fail it's basically because you suck or don't know how to promote. I see Hip Hop being strong and thats cuz Canada keeps it dope.
AGK: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
TT: On a beach sipping mai Tai's
AGK: What inspires you to make music?
TT: Shitty music. Haha really. Man I can't listen to the crap on the radio, so I think right now at these stage in my life...it's cuz I know I can make better music then that. I mean I lived in Toronto, and right now thats a major spot for hip hop. But most of it is horrible, everyone sounds the same. Rapping about the same shit as the next man, no original artists. Everyone in Toronto wants to be Dipset, or G-Unit clones. That's why I got a mic and a pad.
AGK: How do you feel about what were doin over here at AGK?
TT: Yanno its a movement man. I mean reaching out to the local scene is big. We local cats have to take promotion anyway we can get it, in turn we bring in some people that maybe dident know about your store. It works both ways and we need more people like you and AGK. It's not a bad thing to like local music. We need to shed that perception that all local music sucks. I love the fact that you actually make your own skate videos!! Thats dope right there man!
AGK: I know your a San Jose Sharks fan, Yeah think yeah got it this year?
TT: I think so bro. We lost the last few years in the second round of the playoffs. So this year we got Rob Blake and Dan Boyle. We got the Asst Coach From Detroit last year, so now we play the Detroit style of hockey but with way better players.
AGK: Name some up and coming artists in the region.
TT: Ahhh basically everyone I know haha. For real man!
